And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.

Jack's 16th Birthday

Yesterday was Jack's 16th birthday. Here are pictures of how we celebrated this special, yet difficult day.

Birthday balloons

We hiked the same trail we hiked in January for Jack's memorial hike

and we released 16 butterflies in honor of Jack's 16th birthday

this butterfly hung around for awhile before he flew away

A birthday cake to celebrate the 16th year of my beautiful boy's birth

Good night sweet prince. We miss you and love you always

  1. I got chills reading these two posts. Good, peace filled chills. Heaven must be an amazing place to celebrate a birthday, and what a beautiful earthly way to honor it.

  2. The "significant days" (birthday and death day) are never easy for me; it's a challenge to figure out how to mark them both. I'm glad that you found a way to celebrate Jack's birth with those you love. Birthdays are special, no matter where the one we love now resides. You gave him birth, and it is a beautiful gift, worthy of celebrating. Happy birthday to Jack (and you)!

    1. Thank you Karen. I've been told that birthdays are harder anniversaries than death day anniversaries, which makes sense because you have memories of past birthday celebrations with your child. I made it through the day with the support of many.
